I'm a Spanish applied and sociocultural linguist who researches language and identity, second and heritage language development and education, and critical pedagogies. I hold a PhD in Hispanic linguistics with a designated emphasis in Second Language Acquisition from University of California, Davis. I'm currently an Assistant Professor of Spanish linguistics at University of Colorado, Boulder in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.

In general, m
y research explores the following questions:
  1. How do the identities of heritage speakers and additional language learners influence their Spanish learning? In turn, how does the act of learning a language across different local and global contexts influence their identities and attitudes?
  2. What ideologies are reproduced in Spanish language pedagogy in the U.S.? What are counter pedagogical approaches?
  3. What does it mean to be "proficient" in another language?
  4. How do monolinguals, bilinguals, and additional language learners perceive local and global varieties of Spanish? What may account for their perceptions?

Areas of interest: language and identity, study abroad, oral fluency, critical language pedagogies, language teacher education, second/foreign language pedagogy, Spanish as a heritage language, 'Asian Latinxs'
